A journey into the work of GIULIA MANGIONE

Trans-Siberian

Nine thousands kilometers from Moscow to Vladivostock, the journey mainly known as Trans-Siberian Railway.

I chose to travel in third class, in plats cart wagon (an open coach with 54 bed spots). This allowed me to bump in a huge variety of people: from discharged militaries to families returning home that can’t afford plane tickets, even students getting back home for summer holidays. This train takes 6 days to cover this distance going at an average speed of 90 km/h circa; I chose to get off many times, prolonging my journey to 30 days. I wanted to document the slow changing of landscapes, cultures and people’s face features as long as you travel to east.

I chose to carry just a film camera, focusing on the most important aspects of the journey.
